So, Michael & I have been practicing vegetarians for over a month now. To be specific, we are lacto vegetarians. Our ultimate goal (or at least, my ultimate goal, & I'm just dragging him along) is to go full-time vegan.
What prompted this change from this once, current & future eating machine??? My love of dogs & a simple book called, "Thanking the Monkey: Rethinking the Way We Treat Animals". At work, we see many free books ranging from one end of the spectrum to the other. I spotted this book & honestly thought that it was going to be about how to treat animals & I would learn new ways to coexist with my darling Oscar. Instead, this book was about animal welfare, in terms of how they are raised and slain for food. I was in too deep before I understood just what I was reading - not forgetting that Karen Dawn wrote a wonderfully captivating book.
By the time I was done, I was sold & a vegetarian was born. God love Michael - he's embraced it as well. He has his own mind (for sure) but this issue we agree 100% on. So, on September 11, 2008, I last ate meat.
Ironically enough, Oscar's still a carnivore. As most of you know, Oscar would just sniff tofu and repay me by throwing up everywhere. Like mother, like doggy...
